Hi guys! I am so sorry for the late blog post; I was very occupied after we landed in Zurich. Because of this, I have included some information about my flights at the end! Thank you; without further ado, here is Surviving Layovers in Unique Airports with Affordable Sushi!
I firmly believe that one of the best parts of the 21st century is the ability to buy sushi at most modern airports. Currently, I am sitting at London Heathrow Airport during my second layover, waiting for my gate to be released for my flight into Zurich after enjoying a delightful sushi and sashimi combo. I have had sushi for lunch for the past two days, all inside an airport. Also, I have had five-hour layovers for the past two days.
Dallas Layover
My first lengthy layover was at the Dallas Airport. To pass the time, I finished my second blog post; you can read it here. I also explored the airport with some friends. A blue structure inside the airport (pictured above) held our attention for around thirty minutes. It is called Circling an Urban Musical Instrument by Christopher Janney. This display plays music if you follow the instructions to step on the correct blocks inside the structure. We were not able to solve the puzzle, but we did try to several times. There also was an interactive Coca-Cola Display where you do trivia and take photos to send as postcards to your friends and family. After visiting both displays, we ate lunch and grabbed some fro-yo from PinkBerry. For lunch, I grabbed a Tuna Crunch Roll from a nearby restaurant and ate it where the other girls were eating, Chic-Fil-A. I had a peach-flavored frozen yogurt; it was tangy but overrated and not worth the five dollars. The Dallas Airport also had neat mosaics on the floor.
London Layover
After a nine-hour flight to London, we finally arrived at London Heathrow Airport (where I am currently sitting and waiting for my gate to be posted). This airport is like a luxury mall; it has stores like Tiffany, Louis Vuitton, and other high-end and expensive brands. This is fine if you are looking to spend thousands at an airport, but not if you are anything like me and have a limited budget. We wandered around for a little, looking for a Cadbury Milk Tray, and after that, we stopped at a restaurant called Itsu. It was reasonably priced and offered a variety of sushi (mostly salmon, though) and noodles. It also had mochi, gyoza, rice cakes, bubble tea, and seaweed chips. I had a sashimi and sushi combo and seaweed chips. My friend also shared one of her Mango Cheesecake Mochi bites (not pictured), and they were delicious!! It was about eight dollars total and totally worth it!! The restaurant also had a neat butterfly display (pictured above)!
Flights
My first flight was brief; I read A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson. The second flight was an overnight flight from Dallas to London. It was about nine hours, plus an additional hour and a half delay. During the wait and the first hour of the flight, I watched Pitch Perfect, a classic, and was very bored. I tried to sleep for the rest of the flight but only fell asleep once I took my contacts out. I passed on all the meals on that flight and only ate my Archer’s Beef Jerky Stick. I’m glad I packed those; if you want to see what else I had packed in my carry-on, you can read about that here. My last flight was also brisk, I continued reading my book, and we had another hour-and-a-half delay. The journey was fun, but I’m very excited about the destinations!
Sounds like you should be at your destination by now. Can’t wait to read your blog about your adventures there.
